Our Day
of Atonement
And each of you shall
return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family. -Leviticus 25:10
Just as the Year of Jubilee
enabled the Israelites to return to their original possessions, salvation
through Jesus enables us to return to the original position Adam enjoyed with
God.
In that original state,
Adam was healthy. No sickness or disease existed in his body, because no
sickness or disease existed on earth.
If God had wanted man sick,
He would have created sickness. But God never did say, “Let there be cancer.”
He never said, “Let there be colds and flu.” Instead the Bible tells us God
sent His Word to heal us. (Ps. 107:20.) Matthew 8:17 says, “Himself took
our infirmities and bare our sicknesses.” Referring to Jesus, 1 Peter 2:24
says, “By whose stripes ye were healed.”
Adam enjoyed divine health,
a sound mind and every need met before he sinned in the Garden. All he had to
do was obey God’s command and stay away from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good
and Evil in the midst of the Garden. But when the serpent said, “Go ahead and
eat from it.” Adam disobeyed God and chose a new master. (Gen. 3:4-6.) At that
moment, he lost all the blessings that had been his to enjoy.
Fear entered in. Adam had
never experienced fear before. But after Satan became his legal guardian, Adam
told God, “I was afraid” (Gen. 3:10). From that point on, Adam and all his
descendants were plagued with hate, murder, poverty and sickness.
But, thank God, then came our
day of atonement! Jesus became the sacrificial Lamb of God, who takes away the
sin of the world. (John 1:29.) He was the last Adam, who redeemed—or purchased
back—for us everything the first Adam lost. Through Jesus, we can come into the
family of God and have all our original possessions restored!
CONFESSION:
Jesus is my Jubilee. He
has restored me to all the benefits God originally planned for mankind. Because
of Jesus, I walk in divine health. All my needs are met—spirit, soul and body!
