Returned to Our Original Possession

And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants.  It shall be a Jubilee for you; and each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family. -Leviticus 25:10

In the Year of Jubilee, every man was to return to his original possessions. Likewise, we’re supposed to return to man’s original state—to all Adam possessed in the Garden of Eden before he lost everything.

So what was our original possession? When we know that, we’ll know what God wants us to return to.

In 1 Corinthians 15:45, God makes a comparison between the first Adam and the last Adam: “The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.” We know who the first Adam was. He was the one who disobeyed God and got mankind in trouble. But who was the last Adam?

Jesus Christ is the last Adam. He made atonement for us when He died on the Cross and God raised Him from the dead. By laying down His life for us, Jesus enabled us to go back to our original possession. That original possession—what  Adam had before the Fall—was a family relationship with Almighty God. Adam was in God’s family; he was even called the son of God. (Luke 3:38.) But when he sinned in the Garden, he broke that relationship.

Many think that all people are children of God. But Jesus refuted that belief in John 8:44. He told some of the highest religious leaders of the day that they were of their father, the devil. You see, when Adam fell in the Garden of Eden, mankind traded fathers.

So what do we return to? We return to our relationship with the Father God. That’s why 1 John 3:1 says, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.” When we receive Jesus, our Jubilee, He sets us free to become the sons of God!

CONFESSION:

When I was born again, Jesus, my Jubilee, gave me back a relationship with my Father. I am privileged to be called a son of God through Jesus’  precious blood.
