Sounding the Jubilee Trumpet

Then you shall cause the trumpets of the Jubilee to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month; on the Day of the Atonement you shall  make the trumpet to sound throughout all your land. And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants.  It shall be a Jubilee for you; and each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you shall return to his family. -Leviticus 25:9-10

In the fiftieth year, the Israelites celebrated the Day of Atonement. On this day, animal sacrifices were made to atone for the people’s sins.

Every one of those animal sacrifices was simply a picture of Jesus dying on the Cross for us. Jesus atoned (at one with God) us once and for all when He went to the Cross. He paid for our sins when He laid down His life, shed His blood and rose from the dead on the third day.

After atonement was made for the people’s sins, the trumpet of Jubilee was sounded. As part of the body of Christ, we are sounding the trumpets today by preaching and teaching the Word of God and telling others the good news of Jesus’ Atonement for them.

After the Jubilee trumpet had sounded, every man went back to his own possessions. If he had debts, his debts were forgiven. If in the past he’d been forced to sell property to pay debts, the property was returned to him. If he had been sold as a servant or a slave, he was set free. The Year of Jubilee, then, was the year of forgiveness, freedom and restoration to one’s original possession—a beautiful portrait of our new covenant redemption in Christ!

CONFESSION:

I am a trumpet in the hands of my Father. I proclaim liberty to the captives, speaking of God’s goodness, mercy and power to heal and deliver them from every bondage of the enemy.
